Candidate Requirements

We encourage all citizens to consider running for elected office. The Founders of our nation envisioned citizen legislators, not career politicians! In order to be considered for endorsement by the Virginia Tea Party Alliance PAC, candidates must show the following:

1) A record of strong principled approach to fiscal conservatism and constitutionally limited government as evidenced by:
A) a voting record – if serving as an elected official
B) activism or political engagement
C) community involvement

2) Donor history:
A) political donations as verified through VPAP and the FEC
B) charitable donations
c) Community involvement

3) Dedication to the Founding Principles of our Nation, and knowledge of the Virginia Constitution

4) Proven campaign experience or successful completion of campaign training by either American Majority or Leadership Institute

5) A campaign plan and strategy to include:

A) Identification of key voter constituencies
B) trained campaign staff
C) a written campaign plan including media and precinct organization
D) at least 25% of campaign funds raised or committed
E) Volunteer development and recruitment
F) deep commitment to winning, not merely “sending a message”
G) a vision/solutions that are specific to the district he/she hopes to represent

6) Demonstrable grassroots support

Candidates requesting assistance with their campaigns will be required to fill out an in-depth questionnaire and submit to an extensive interview with the Virginia Tea Party Alliance Board and advisers.
